Asthma Hospitalization Rates
Description: Asthma hospitalizations occur when a person is admitted and incurs at least one overnight stay for treatment. A sustainable and healthy community is one where there are minimal asthma hospitalizations from exposure to air pollutants and other triggers. Asthma is a chronic condition that affects more than 15 million Americans. Costs to society include expensive medical treatments, loss of school and work days, and, at worst, death. The emergency room (ER) and the inpatient hospitalization data are mutually exclusive. The ER data include only those who were not admitted as inpatients.
Data Source: Data for asthma hospitalizations comes from records of the Arizona Department of Health Services' Asthma Control Program. http://www.azdhs.gov/phs/cdpc/asthma/index.htm
